Rosette Patterns

Cyclic Patterns

Patterns with cyclic symmetry have only rotational symmetry around a central point. The rotation can be 1/2 turn, 1/3 turn, etc., and the groups are correspondingly named C2, C3, ... Notice that patterns with cyclic symmetry will look different ("reversed") in a mirror.

None of the groups shown seem particularly rare at the Cathedral, except for C5. C12 is a bit tricky to find. Finding a C9 would be great.

C2

All Saints, wall.

C3

Near All Souls, ceiling.

C4

Near West Transept, ceiling.

C5

Museum, seal used for Holy Door before Jubilee Year 2000.

C6

Also note D5 stars.

C8

C12

Sanctuary Dome, pulpit detail.

C16

Between All Saints and West Transept, ceiling.

C20

Outer ring, with shading detail, is C20. Also note fine C8 ring.

C24

Would be C24 if complete circle.
